Creating custom application pages with OOTB styles overridden(/_Layouts/)

While creating a layouts page , you would like to add/override styles in your ASPX page.
  1. To override styles, Use the IE toolbar to find the exact style you would like to override.
  2. Place the styles as below  in the ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderAdditionalPageHead" and id="AdditionalPageHead".
  3. You could add display:none for the style to disappear on your page or add custom styles to override the OOTB styles of SharePoint.
<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderAdditionalPageHead" id="AdditionalPageHead" runat="server">
<style type="text/css">
table.ms-bannerframe
{
    display:none
}
table.ms-navframe
{
    display:none
}
TD.ms-areaseparator
{
    background-image: url(/_layouts/images/topshape.jpg);
    height:50px
}
</style>
